Featured Runner:
Vera Hershey
Vera, a 7-year member of VWRT, has a smile for everyone. Her positive, energetic attitude is contagious and often envied by those decades her junior.
Vera joined the VWRT with the goal of becoming a faster runner and, wow, has she achieved this goal! She has improved her mile pace by two minutes! This remarkable improvement is certainly reflected in her race times where she often places in the top three in her age group. Vera, a prolific racer, participates in everything from 5Ks to half marathons as well as triathlons, bike races, and ski races.
Inspired yet? Well, hold on to your hats: Vera is 59 years old! Yes, that’s right, Vera is 59 years old! Vera reports that challenging her body through running year-round keeps her feeling 16 years old and has earned the nickname ‘the strong one’ with her family.
But if you’re thinking that she has lots of time to fit running in to her life because she’s retired, well, you’re wrong – Vera works a busy 40+ hour job at the Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. She, like many of us, sets aside time for her running lifestyle each week without fail. If Vera misses a Tuesday workout, she’s either gravely ill or out of town because she just wouldn’t miss a workout. In Vera’s words, “We are really blessed to have two wonderful coaches who are so vested in our running success.” And how rewarding it is to coach women like Vera. Keep it up, Vera!
Check the VWRT Forum Often
Learn the latest news and connect with your running buddies on the VWRT Forum. We have set up this forum so that our members can network for group runs, rides or ski outings; get the latest trail updates; post classified ads; and more. There's even an 'announcements' forum where members may post news that may otherwise take up precious time at our Tuesday workouts. To post messages, you'll need to become a registered user - very simple to do but if you need assistance, ask Jenny or Julie. Visit the forum often to stay up to date. And don't be shy about posting messages!
